West Yellowstone and the Yellowstone General Stores are some of the most popular places to buy food and supplies near Yellowstone National Park. Yet, even for simple everyday items, prices can be very high, and they don’t always have what you need.
While I’ve certainly shelled out for supplies needed at well-known stores in Fishing Bridge and West Yellowstone, they aren’t the only options. With some proper planning and a big cooler, you can stock up at some of the more reasonably priced stores near Yellowstone and a few secret gems inside the national park.
Gardiner, Montana (North Entrance)
Yellowstone’s north entrance at the town of Gardiner has similar pricing. If you’re willing to drive another 20 minutes north, there’s a secret gem near Emigrant in the Paradise Valley to stock your cooler.
Ridley’s Gardiner Market
Prices: Moderate to High
Address: 701 Scott St W, Gardiner, MT 59030
Also known as “Gardiner Market,” this is the quickest place to stop for groceries and supplies near Yellowstone’s north entrance. It’s a bit pricey, but cheaper than buying supplies inside the park. I’m also not impressed with their produce selection. So, it’s maybe not the place to buy your salad fixings.
Mammoth General Store
Prices: High
Address: 315A Grand Loop Rd, Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190
This is a smaller general store inside the park with moderate to high prices. They offer a small variety of items, including groceries, ice cream, souvenirs, and apparel. This is worth stopping at if you want to get a quick treat for the kids or if you need to grab a bag of chips for your picnic lunch. If you need to stock up, I’d rather drive 20 minutes north and endure coming back in through the gate to save some money.
Emigrant General Store (Sinclair Gas Station)

Prices: Budget-Friendly to Moderate
Address: 3 Murphy Ln, Emigrant, MT 59027
This is my secret gem for picking up groceries and basic supplies near Yellowstone’s north entrance. Driving through the Paradise Valley on US 89, you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s just a simple gas station.
Yet inside, they have a variety of meats, fresh and frozen produce, drinks, bread, and everything you need to stock the cooler. All at reasonable prices you’d pay back home. Even the gas here is reasonably priced.
They even have a small church if you need to get your pray on. The cute little dinosaur statue is even a kick for the kids to pose on.
NOTE: The Emigrant Outpost is on the other side of the Yellowstone River from the General Store. It’s a great bar and grill, with a menu full of comfort foods and kid-pleasers (Including good pizza) at reasonable prices.
West Yellowstone, Montana (West Entrance)
West Yellowstone is literally poised at the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park, and everything here is a little bit over-priced.

Market Place
Prices: Moderate to High
Address: 22 Madison Ave, West Yellowstone, MT 59758
Prices are higher than at a standard grocery store due to its location near the park, but it's well-stocked. This is the closest option to the west entrance and the place to stop if you realize you need something and you’re short on time.
Food Roundup Supermarket
Prices: Above Average
Address: 107 Dunraven St, West Yellowstone, MT 59758
This is sort of the main supermarket in West Yellowstone. It’s a few blocks from the west entrance to the park, but the prices are a little more reasonable. If you’re staying in West Yellowstone and you need to stock the cooler with picnic items and ice, this is where I’d go.
Cooke City & Silver Gate, Montana (Northeast Entrance)
The Cook City & Silver Gate stores near Yellowstone’s northeast entrance tend to be higher priced as they’re somewhat remote. Yet they’re a convenient place to stop if you need something and you’re camping in the Lamar or coming into Yellowstone from the Beartooth Pass.
Cooke City Store
Prices: Moderate to High
Address: 101 Main St, Cooke City, MT 59020
This is a little red building on Highway 212. It’s a small-town general store, so prices are slightly marked up but not extreme.
Stop the Car Trading Post
Prices: Moderate
Address: 8000, 108 US-212 W, Cooke City, MT 59081
This is another small-town general store with reasonably priced basic snacks and expensive souvenirs.
Fishing Bridge
The Fishing Bridge arguably has the best amenities and stores inside the park. You do pay more here, but I think it’s honestly on par with the prices in West Yellowstone. Gas here is as reasonable as you’ll find in the park.
Fishing Bridge General Store

Prices: Moderate to High
Address: 1 E Entrance Rd, Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190
This is one of the largest general stores in Yellowstone, with everything you need to stock the cooler. They also have a wide variety of souvenirs. Some of them are high-priced, but there are some reasonably priced gems to be found if you dig. It’s arguably the place to stop if you want to do some budget-friendly souvenir shopping.
Canyon Village
Yellowstone Canyon Village area has a few different shops for groceries, supplies, and gear. The prices are higher, but not as price gouging as other places in the park as it’s designed to support the people staying in the canyon campgrounds and lodge.
Canyon Village General Store
Prices: Moderate to High

Address: Grand Loop Rd #2, Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190
The Canyon Village General Store is on par with the one you’ll find in Fishing Bridge as far as pricing is concerned. However, it’s smaller and has a little less selection. If you’re not headed south, it’s worth a stop. If your itinerary will take you to Fishing Bridge, I’d hold off until you get there.
Grant Village
Grant Village on the southern shores of Yellowstone Lake supports both the larger campground and the remote primitive campgrounds nearby. So, demand for certain products here can be high.
Grant Village General Store
Prices: Moderate to High

Address: 2 Grant Village Rd, Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190
Yellowstone’s Grant Village General Store is on par with the one in Canyon Village for scale and variety of products. It arguably has fewer souvenirs and more provisions, including Yellowstone wines.
In my experience, they sometimes run out of things, and there’s no telling when it will be in again. However, that might have been a past supply chain issue.
Old Faithful Village
Yellowstone’s Old Faithful Village has grown into a town in its own right. Being iconic, prices here are high on everything. It might be worth it to get a souvenir here, but I would rather drive to Grant Village or elsewhere outside the park to stock my cooler.
Old Faithful General Store
Prices: Moderate to High
Address: 2 Old Faithful Rd, Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190.
The prices here are high, and it might be worth it to get a souvenir. I would rather drive to Grant Village or elsewhere outside the park to stock my cooler. The Old Faithful Basin Store is separate from the general store and is more of a souvenir shop and diner with some grab & go snacks.
Billings Supplies and Grocery Stores
If you’re coming in on Interstate 90 from the East, Billings is the best place to stop to stock the cooler at reasonable prices. Even if you’re going to enter the park through Livingston and the Paradise Valley, I would still stop at one of the big box stores in Billings to load up the cooler and pick up snacks for the week.
Billings Sam’s Club
Prices: Reasonable for groceries and discount gas
Address: 4420 King Ave E, Billings, MT 59101
Just off the interstate, this is THE PLACE to buy bulk supplies if you’re coming into Yellowstone via the north or northeast entrance. You need a membership, which is good at all Sam’s Club Stores, and will also give you access to their discount member’s only gas pumps.
Billings Walmart
Prices: Budget-friendly
Address: 2525 King Ave W, Billings, MT 59102
This is a typical Walmart, and if you don’t have a Sam’s Club membership, this is where I’d stock up the cooler. It is a little way off the interstate and adds another 10 minutes to your drive time.
Bozeman Walmart and Grocery Store
Prices: Budget-friendly
Address: 1500 N 7th Ave, Bozeman, MT 59715
As the biggest airport close to Yellowstone, the Bozeman Walmart is your best bet to stock up a cooler when flying into Yellowstone. You could even use a cooler backpack or buy a cheap Styrofoam fishing cooler to support you for the rest of your trip. It’s located right next to Interstate 90 if you’re coming into the park via the North Entrance.
Cody Walmart and Grocery Store
Prices: Budget-friendly to Moderate
Address: 321 Yellowstone Ave, Cody, WY 82414
Cody is a tourist town, and the prices here are a little higher, even at the Cody Walmart. Yet, it’s still better than the prices inside Yellowstone. If you’re coming from the East and intending to take the east entrance to the park, the Cody Walmart is your last best place to stock the cooler.
